Muscular Dystrophy is the name that even in the age of information explosion is lesser known to people, than other disease like AIDS, CANCER and POLIO. The prime reason for not knowing this form of disease is lack of awareness in the society. The people suffering from this disease, at various levels, of our social setup have been, to say the least.

Muscular Dystrophy is a progressive and degenerative in nature in which, both voluntary and involuntary muscles groups get leaves its victims from partially to totally dependent. Further more unlike the victims of AIDS, CANCER and POLIO etc, gets the Government, Non- Government and Media attention, where as the victim of Muscular Dystrophy continue to be the children of a lesser God, with very little effort at all levels of decision making and opinion formation in the society to understand and to let them solve their problems alone!

With these shortcoming and insensitivity toward the sufferings of Muscular Dystrophy victims it was decided to form an association to give a platform to such people in order to share their experiences regarding the untold mysteries that they have to pass through each day. The association i.e. THE INDIAN ASSOCIATION OF MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY (IAMD) was thus founded in the year 1995 with a mission to assist and rehabilitate the patients or in other words victims suffering from Muscular Dystrophy , specially in our country , India.
